Express Entry Procedure

Express Entry (EE)

  • Must meet minimum requirements for Federal Skilled Worker (FSW), Federal Skilled Trades (FST) and/or Canadian Experience Class (CEC)
  • Education Credential Assessment (ECA) is required for FSW, suggested for FST and/or CEC
  • Job offer is not a requirement but will award points
  • Possibility of nomination from a province (except Quebec)
  • Can apply for PNP and EE simultaneously
  • NOC 0, A and B work permit holders may apply under EE if working under an LMIA
  • Work experience in Quebec counts but applicant must intend to live in any other province other than Quebec
  • EE profile remains valid for 1 year. New profile required after expiration
  • Candidate will be assessed without Spouse/Common-Law if spouse or partner is already a PR or citizen, or is not immigrating with applicant
  • EE profile creation is free
  • Invitation to apply (ITA) does not grant PR
  • 60 days to submit application once ITA is received
  • Misrepresentation makes applicant inadmissible and will be banned from applying again for 5 years
  • Police certificates from past countries of residence are valid for only 6 months
  • Police certificates must be submitted from the places where the applicant has lived from more than 6 months in the last 10 years

 

Candidate Procedure

  • Create EE profile
  • Register with Job Bank of Canada if no job offers
  • If applicant meets FST, FSW or CEC requirements, they will be placed in the EE pool of candidates
  • Receive your Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score
  • Job offer or nomination by a province can be attained after EE profile creation to add more points
  • Candidates who surpass the CRS cut-off score will receive an ITA for PR
  • 60 days to submit application after ITA is issued
  • Must me eligibility and admissibility requirements at the time of application

 

Employer Procedures

  • Must attempt to hire a Canadian citizen or PR for 1 month prior hiring a foreign worker
  • Must apply for a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) when unsuccessful in hiring a citizen or PR
  • Approved LMIA grants employer the right to hire a foreign worker
  • Can begin searching for potential employees in the EE pool of candidates
  • Employer sends LMIA information and job offer contract to the chosen candidate to include in their EE profile
  • If IRCC accepts the job offer, the candidates will receive an ITA
